This Privacy Policy explains how TOP HTML, LLC, through Tips for Humanity, collects, uses, retains, and protects information related to you when you visit our website, create your tipper account, publish tips, or communicate with us.
Tips for Humanity is a free, international platform where real people, whom we call "tippers," publish short life tips together with their personal context, for those living today and for future generations. Tippers can follow each other and write private messages to each other; there are no comments under tips. Tips for Humanity does not display advertising and does not sell your data.
Tippers can also publish values (principles they consider important). In this Policy, everything said about tips applies equally to values.
When you use Tips for Humanity, certain personal data may be processed in accordance with this Privacy Policy, our Cookie Policy, our Terms of Use, and the consent settings available on the website, where applicable.
The controller responsible for processing personal data is:
TOP HTML, LLC
For any questions related to privacy or data protection, you may use any of the contact methods listed above.
Tips for Humanity may collect different types of information depending on how you use the platform. We aim to collect only the data needed for the platform to work.
To create your tipper account and sign in, we exclusively use Sign in with Google. We do not create or store passwords.
When you sign in, Google provides us, with your authorization, with the following information from your Google account:
We store your email address and your account identifier, which are private and never shown on the platform. Your Google account name is used only as an initial suggestion for your profile name, which you can change before publishing.
To publish tips, you need to complete your profile with the following data:
You may also optionally add a profile photo, which you can remove at any time.
You can also write a tagline, a short sentence about yourself (optional, up to 80 characters). Before showing it to others we check it with artificial intelligence and, if in doubt, a person of the team checks it; until then, and if it is not approved, only you see it. If you change it, the previous one stops showing at once.
Your profile data is not verified: you are responsible for keeping it accurate and up to date.
When you publish a tip, we store:
Tips do not store an age or city of their own from the time of publication: each tip is always shown with the current data in your profile.
We recommend that you do not include in your tips any personal data about yourself that you do not want to make public, or any personal data about other people, which is also prohibited by our Terms of Use.
We also store your activity with other tippers’ tips: the ones you save in Bookmarks (with the date you saved them, visible only to you), the ones you like (next to the number of likes of each tip, anyone can see who gave them; on a private tip, only its author sees it), and the reports you send (the reason and any details you write; only administrators see them, and they are never shown to the author). We also store the notifications we show you on the website (when we remove one of your posts, with the reason, how many people liked it, without saying who, and news from your groups: pending submissions and requests if you are a group admin, and what was decided about what you sent or about your request to join) and whether you have read them.
If you take part in groups, we store the groups you create (name, description, and whether they are public or private), the groups you belong to, your role in each one (member or group admin), the date you joined, your requests to join private groups (seen by their group admins until they accept or reject them) and, if a group admin removes you, that you cannot join again. The tips and values you write inside a group are only visible inside that group, and we store the stage of each group post (submitted, proposed, or in the collection), who added it, and the supports that proposals receive (its members can see who supported each one). A group's member list is only visible to its members, also in public groups; non-members only see how many there are. A private group is only visible to its members and to whoever has its invitation link.
Events. If you organize an event, we store its title, its description, whether it is public or private, the start and end date and time, the places, the format and, as the case may be, the link of the call or the country, city and address of the meeting, and whether you cancelled it. Any visitor can see a public event with your name as organizer, the city and the country, and the number of people signed up. A private event is only seen by those who signed up and those who have its invitation link, which you share (and can renew so the previous one stops working); it never appears in the list of Events. If you sign up for an event, we store that you signed up and when. The link of the call, the exact address and the list of people signed up are only seen by those who signed up for the same event; everyone else only sees how many they are. The organizer receives a notification when someone signs up, without saying who (they see it in the list of people signed up), and those signed up receive one when the date, place or link changes, or when the event is cancelled. We also store the reports of events you send (the reason and the details you write). After the event, we store whom the organizer marks as attendee (people signed up see it) and, for each post of the event, who is invited to sign it, whether they accept and when. The name of those who accept is shown on the post, with a link to their profile, and the post appears on the profile and in the list of tips or values of each author. If you leave as author, your name is no longer shown and the post disappears from your profile. An event can also be created inside a group (if the group lets you post in it): then only its members see it, it does not appear in the list of Events and what is published afterwards stays in the group. Whoever leaves a group leaves its events that have not started yet, and the ones they organize are cancelled.
You can share a tip with another tipper you can write to directly: your own, including private ones, and other tippers' public ones. We store who shared it, with whom and when, whether the sharer allows it to be known (allowed by default) and whether the recipient shows it on their public profile (not shown by default). It only appears on the recipient's public profile, with the sharer's name, if the tip is public and both allow it. The recipient gets a notification; the author of someone else's tip is not told. When it is unshared, it is deleted without a trace.
Followers. We store which tippers you follow and since when. Each tipper's lists of followers and followed tippers are public, with their counters on the public profile. When someone starts following you, we let you know with a notification, without saying who (you can see it in your list of followers).
Private messages. If you write or receive private messages, we store their text, their date, who sends them and to whom, whether they have been read (only to know what you have not read yet: whoever writes to you does not see whether you have read it), and whether their sender has deleted them. We also store the status of each conversation (request, accepted, or declined; whoever sent a request is not told if you declined it), who can write to you according to your preference, the tippers you block, and the reports of conversations you send (the reason and any details you write). Messages are only shown to the two people in the conversation. Messaging is a simple way to get in touch, not a secure communication service: messages are stored on our servers without end-to-end encryption, so we recommend not sharing sensitive information this way. We may access them when necessary to handle reports, prevent abuse, maintain the service, or comply with legal obligations.
When you use the contact form or communicate with us, we may collect:
We recommend that you do not submit sensitive or unnecessary information through the contact form.
When you visit Tips for Humanity, we may collect technical information related to your device, browser, and use of the website.
This information may include:
Some of this information is recorded in our server's technical logs for security and operational purposes. Usage information for statistical purposes is collected through Google Analytics only if you accept analytics cookies.
From your IP address we approximately infer your country and region, using a database we query on our own server (MaxMind GeoLite2): your IP address is not sent to third parties for this, and neither the country nor the region is stored in your account. We use them to adapt how the website works to the rules of your country and to compile aggregated visit statistics: daily counters by country, region, and the domain of the website you come from (for example, google.com). These statistics do not store your IP address or any identifier, do not use cookies or store anything on your device, and cannot identify any person. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in knowing where visits come from in order to improve and promote the website.
Tips for Humanity uses essential cookies, which are necessary for the website to function (for example, to keep you signed in, remember your language, or store your cookie preferences), and optional analytics cookies, which are used only if you accept them. We do not use advertising cookies.
The use of these technologies is also governed by our Cookie Policy and the consent settings panel.
Public information. Any visitor to Tips for Humanity can see:
Each tip is shown together with your current name or nickname, age, city, and country. If you change this data in your profile, for example because you have a birthday or move, it is updated across your whole public profile and all of your tips.
Private information. The following is never shown:
When you publish a tip you must accept that it will be published on the website together with your name or nickname, age, city, country, and publication date. Publishing is not possible without this acceptance.
Sharing outside the platform. Published tips are public: anyone can share them, quote them, show them in videos or on social media, or take screenshots and post them elsewhere, as they appear on the website and therefore with the public data shown with them. That use outside the platform does not depend on Tips for Humanity. If you do not want this to happen, do not publish tips, or delete the ones you have already published.
We may use personal data for the following purposes:
We do not use your data to show you advertising, we do not build profiles for commercial purposes, and we do not sell your data.
Depending on your location and applicable law, the processing of your data may be based on one or more of the following legal grounds:
Tips are published right away, without prior review. Afterwards, every public tip is automatically analyzed with Google Gemini, Google's artificial intelligence service, to decide whether it may appear in the platform's public searches: it checks that the tip is well written and complies with our content rules. Only the text of the tip is sent to Google Gemini; your name, email address, and other profile data are not sent.
The result only decides whether the tip appears in the searches: it does not prevent its publication, has no human review, and is not communicated to you. The platform's administrators may remove tips that break the Terms of Use; in that case we tell you so, with the reason, in your notifications.
This automated analysis does not produce legal effects concerning you or similarly significantly affect you: your tip remains published and visible to anyone who looks for it on your profile or through its link.
So that the searches also find the tips that are about the same topic even when they do not use the same words (search by meaning), the text of every tip that may appear in the searches is also sent to Google Gemini, which turns it into a numerical representation of its meaning; we store it with the tip, and it is deleted with it. Likewise, the text you type in the search box is sent to Google Gemini to compare it with the tips; it is not sent together with your account or any other data about you, and we do not store your searches (only the numerical representation of each search, for a few hours, to answer sooner if someone repeats it). Do not type personal data in the search box.
Tips for Humanity uses third-party services and providers for sign-in, content moderation, protection against abuse, email delivery, infrastructure, and, only with your consent, traffic analytics.
These third parties may process technical information, browsing data, identifiers, cookies, or other data in accordance with their own policies, the agreements we have with them, and the settings available on the website.
We use Google sign-in (OAuth) so that you can create your account and sign in without a password. When you sign in, Google processes your data in accordance with its own Privacy Policy and provides us only with the data described in Section 2.1.
We use Google Gemini, Google's artificial intelligence API, to automatically analyze the text of public tips and decide whether they appear in the searches, for the search by meaning (the text of those tips and of the searches typed in the search box), as described in Section 6, and the name and description of the groups whose admins want to show them in the groups directory. We also analyze the title and description of events to decide whether they appear in the list of Events. We also use it to check the tagline you write in your profile, before showing it to others.
We use Google reCAPTCHA v3 to protect the contact form against spam, abuse, and automated activity. This service may process technical information, such as your IP address, device and browser characteristics, and your interactions with the page, to determine whether a request was submitted by a person.
If you accept analytics cookies, we use Google Analytics, loaded through Google Tag Manager, to understand in aggregate how Tips for Humanity is used: visits, pages viewed, traffic sources, and other statistical data.
If you do not accept analytics cookies, Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics are not loaded.
We use Mailgun to send transactional emails, such as copies of messages sent through the contact form, the daily digest of news, and internal platform notices.
We use Cloudflare for domain management (DNS) and to route email sent to our contact addresses to our mailbox.
Tips for Humanity is hosted on DigitalOcean servers located in New York, United States. These servers store the platform's database, which includes your account, profile, and tips, as well as profile photos. Encrypted backups are also kept in DigitalOcean's storage service (Spaces) in Frankfurt, Germany, so they are not lost if the server fails.
We use our own consent management system to display the cookie banner, retain your selected preferences, and communicate those choices to measurement tools through Google Consent Mode.
You can review the Cookie Policy and change your choice at any time through the Cookie Preferences link in the Tips for Humanity footer.
In the future, Tips for Humanity may add other technical, analytics, security, hosting, infrastructure, email, consent management, or other service providers needed to operate the platform.
When necessary, we will update this Privacy Policy or the Cookie Policy to reflect those changes.
Tips for Humanity uses first-party and third-party cookies and similar technologies.
Essential cookies are necessary for the website to function and cannot be disabled from the preferences panel. Analytics cookies are optional and are used only if you accept them.
When required by law, we will ask for your consent before placing nonessential cookies. Until you make a choice, all optional categories remain disabled. If your browser sends the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, we honor it as a rejection of the optional categories.
You can accept, reject, or configure your cookie preferences through the banner or settings panel available on the website.
You can also configure your browser to block, delete, or limit the use of cookies. Please note that some website features, such as signing in, may be affected if you disable certain cookies.
For more information, see our Cookie Policy.
We may share personal data or technical information with the following categories of recipients:
We do not sell your personal data, we do not share it with third parties for advertising purposes, and we do not display advertising on Tips for Humanity.
Please note that public information can be viewed, copied, or shared by anyone while it is published, and that we cannot control copies made by third parties outside the platform.

In particular:
When data is no longer necessary, we will seek to delete, anonymize, or reasonably restrict it unless a legal obligation or legitimate interest requires its retention.
You can delete the following at any time, without needing to contact us:
Before you delete a tip or your account, we will explain the consequences and ask you to confirm. Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.
Deletion does not extend to copies, screenshots, videos, or posts made outside the platform while the tip was public, or to information we must retain under a legal obligation. Deleted data may remain in the encrypted backups for at most 30 days, until they are deleted.
We implement reasonable technical and organizational security measures to protect information against unauthorized access, loss, alteration, disclosure, or destruction, such as password-free sign-in through Google, encrypted connections, and restricted access to private data. Only authorized Tips for Humanity staff can access the data of your account, and only when necessary to support you, solve technical problems, handle reports, prevent abuse, or comply with legal obligations.
However, no computer system, Internet transmission, or electronic storage method is completely secure. Therefore, we cannot guarantee the absolute security of information.
